5 Years of Moto Junkies

Blimey, five years. Has it really been that long? They say time flies when you’re having fun, but when you’re also covered in mud, dodging sheep in the Berwyns, and laughing until your helmet feels too tight, time doesn't just fly: it disappears in a cloud of two-stroke smoke and gravel.

Looking back to when we first started Moto Junkies, it feels like a lifetime ago. It all started with a simple desire: settling in Wales and sharing the true spirit of travel and adventure. We wanted to share our love for the trails, the mountains, and the sheer, unadulterated joy of being on two wheels. Since then, we’ve seen over 500 bikes get properly dirty under our watch, and more importantly, we’ve built a community of riders that we’re incredibly proud to call our own.

Where It All Began

We didn’t start with a massive fleet or a fancy headquarters. We started with a passion for the Welsh landscape and a belief that anyone: regardless of their experience: could learn to love the dirt. If you go back and look at us getting all bloggy from the early days, you'll see the same spark that drives us today.

Those early rides were about finding the best routes, the hidden gems of Snowdonia, and the perfect spots for a mid-ride brew. And let’s be honest, good coffee has always been completely non-negotiable around here. A proper adventure starts with a proper coffee, and that’s still a core part of the Moto Junkies experience now. We wanted to create an environment where the "junkie" part of our name didn't just refer to the adrenaline, but the genuine addiction to the freedom that off-road riding brings. We've always said, who needs drugs when you've got a muddy trail and a group of mates to tackle it with?

500+ Dirty Bikes and Counting

When we hit the milestone of 500+ bikes through our training and tours, it gave us a moment to pause. That’s a lot of oil changes, a fair few bent levers, and an incredible amount of cleaning! But every one of those bikes represents a rider who pushed their boundaries.

Over the years, we’ve run all sorts of adventures, from the Big Welsh Road & Trail Adventure to bespoke trips built around exactly what our riders want, and plenty in between. Some people come for a big, bucket-list ride. Others come for training, a social weekend, or a custom tour with their mates. That mix has always been part of the fun, and it’s one of the things that keeps Moto Junkies feeling fresh.

Our off-road training here in Wales isn't just about technical skills; it's about confidence. We’ve seen riders turn up absolutely terrified of a little bit of gravel, only to leave two days later standing on the pegs and powering through water crossings like pros. Of course, it’s not always easy, and we’ve seen all the classic mistakes along the way. The Moto Junkies Community

If you’ve ever spent a weekend at MotoCamp Wales, you’ll know exactly what we mean when we talk about the "Junkie family." It’s not just about the riding (though that’s a big part of it). It’s about the evenings around the fire, the shared stories of near-misses and epic views, and the friendships that form when you’re all equally caked in mud.

And yes, our community is a wonderful mix of what we affectionately call freaks and weirdos ... in the nicest possible way. From the local farm animals wandering about like they own the place, to our legendary customers who somehow get muddier, funnier, and more lovable with every trip, it’s a brilliant crowd to be part of. There’s always a good story, always someone putting the kettle on, and always a bit of good-natured chaos in the air.

We’ve worked hard to make sure Moto Junkies is a place for everyone. We’ve hosted incredible women-only tours, and the atmosphere is always one of support and camaraderie. There’s no ego here; whether you’re on a brand-new adventure bike or an old trusty trailie, you’re part of the gang. We love seeing people relax and just be themselves.

Expanding Our Horizons

While Wales will always be our home, our itchy feet have taken us much further afield over the last five years. From the rugged beauty of Portugal to the life-changing experience of a motorcycle tour in India, we’ve been lucky enough to see the world from the saddle.

Taking the Moto Junkies ethos abroad has been an adventure in itself. Navigating the "border dance" in Morocco or exploring the vast landscapes of Canada has taught us so much about what makes a great tour. It’s the balance of challenge and comfort: knowing there’s a warm bed and a cold drink (or an ice cream!) waiting for you after a long day in the sun.

Just as importantly, we’ve had some brilliant people alongside us on the journey. Royal Enfield has been with us right from the start, and we’re proud of that solid five-year relationship. They’ve been part of the story from day one. And now, with our exciting new partnership with Zero Motorcycles, we’re looking ahead to a whole new chapter as adventure riding continues to evolve.

Our Base: MotoCamp Wales

None of this would be possible without our incredible base at MotoCamp Wales. Nestled in the heart of Snowdonia, it’s the perfect launchpad for everything we do. Having a place where we can store the bikes, run our training sessions, and offer a cozy spot for riders to stay has changed the game.

It’s the hub of the community. You’ll often find Kevin Hammond (or "Boggy" as we all know him) tinkering with a bike or sharing tips on how to pack for your first camping trip. We’ve built it to be the kind of place we’d want to hang out in: rugged, friendly, and always ready for the next adventure.

What the Future Holds

So, what’s next for the next five years? Honestly, more of the same, but better! We’re always looking for new trails, new ways to improve our training, and new destinations to explore.

We’ve just launched some exciting new tours, like our Royal Welsh Gastro Tour, because let’s face it, we love our food almost as much as our bikes. And of course, we’ll continue to welcome new faces to our training sessions, helping the next 500 riders find their feet in the dirt.

Let's not forget our new partnership with Zero Motorcycles too. You can now join us and experience the thrill of trail riding whilst appreciating the sound of the hills. What better way to spend a day than on our all new X-Line Experience Day

A Huge Thank You

We wanted to end this look back with a massive thank you to everyone who has been part of the Moto Junkies story so far. Whether you’ve been on one tour or ten, whether you’ve joined us for a training day or just follow our adventures online, you’re the reason we do this.

You’re the ones who make the early starts, the rain-soaked trails, and the endless bike maintenance worth it. You’re the ones who bring the laughs and the spirit of adventure that defines who we are.

Here’s to the next five years of dirty bikes, stunning views, and unstoppable community. We can't wait to see you back on the trails soon! Fancy a ride? Check out our latest tours and come join the madness.

Stay dirty, The Moto Junkies Team
